Start in the product wizard

Cottage CMS product creation wizard showing its five setup steps and blank product details fields.

The wizard keeps product details, media, pricing, availability, and review in one setup flow.

Go to Products > Create product. The wizard keeps creation in one flow so you can review the customer experience before saving.

  1. In Details, enter Product Name, Description, Category, URL Slug, and optional SKU. Lead with the product type and size, and keep the first sentence easy to scan.
  2. In Photos, upload the Main Product Photo, enter Photo Alt Text, and add up to eight Gallery Photos when appropriate.
  3. In Pricing, enter Price and Price Per for a simple product, or turn on variants if different sizes or packs have different prices.
  4. In Availability & Shop, choose Product Status, a Storefront status label, Display in Shop, and Feature on Homepage. Then choose how customers buy the product.
  5. In Review, check the summary and select Create Product. You can refine recipe costing, forms, Square, SEO, or availability from the edit page afterward.

Keep the status fields straight

Product Status controls whether the item is active, draft, or archived. Storefront status label is customer-facing copy such as Available, Seasonal, Limited Supply, Contact for Next Availability, Coming Soon, or Sold Out. Neither field replaces a real schedule or inventory rule.

What customers see

Customers see the active product on the products page when Display in Shop is enabled. The shop may show an ordering prompt, an availability selector, a sold-out state, or a contact-for-next-availability message based on your fulfillment setup.

Common problems

  • Slug conflicts: use a short, unique slug and change it later from the product editor only when you are ready to update links.
  • No ordering options: create a location and schedule in Planner, or enable the appropriate lead-time settings.
  • Recipe preview is unavailable: finish ingredient pricing and required conversions in Recipes & Costs; saving the product does not require a recipe.
  • Customers see the wrong price: check whether Pricing Starts At is enabled and whether the selected variant has its own price.
