Move existing form choices into Product Options

Review eligible choices, retained questions, recipe mappings, and blockers before publishing a form conversion.

What this conversion does

Use this walkthrough when a product already asks customers to choose flavors, extras, or box contents through an attached form. The conversion moves selected eligible questions into Product Options for that product. Your current form keeps working while you prepare the review.

Messages, inscriptions, uploads, and other retained questions stay in the form. Other products using the same form keep their own attachments. Existing orders keep their captured answers. This is not an automatic conversion of every form or standing subscription.

Choose the questions to move

  1. Open the product from Products, then open its Product Options.
  2. Find Already asking customers to choose? and expand the relevant form.
  3. Read each question's eligibility, current choices, price adjustments, counts, and applicable sizes.
  4. Select Include in my migration review for the eligible questions you want to move. When a checkbox and its follow-up choices must move together, review the complete pair.
  5. Select Prepare migration review. If you already saved the same selections, use Continue to review. Changed selections use Save changes and continue.

A question marked Keep as a form question for now is not eligible for this conversion. If the product already has option drafts or live options, its existing questions need a combined review; do not remove working options to force the conversion.

Compare choices, prices, and recipes

On Move questions to product options, review Choices moving to this product. Expand the choices and prices. Check required counts, repeats, size-specific behavior, and any conditional follow-up group.

For example, a cookie box might move its flavor selection while keeping a gift-message field. If a premium flavor currently adds $0.50 per selected cookie, the comparison should retain that adjustment. A recipe rule tied to the premium flavor must still include the correct ingredient amount.

When a recipe is attached, review the recipe comparison. Follow the named repair links for unmatched ingredients, amounts, measurements, or unsupported rules. Save repairs, return to this review, and select Check again. When offered, select Continue to final review; that step saves the recipe review without publishing the conversion.

Resolve the displayed blockers

  • The source changed: return to the selected questions and prepare a fresh review.
  • Existing choice inventory: the conversion cannot reconcile those stock limits automatically. Keep the current form while its stock is reviewed; do not delete limits to bypass the check.
  • Current orders or checkouts: let active checkouts finish or expire and review unpaid orders. Do not cancel customer orders simply to continue setup.
  • Standing subscriptions: these need a separate conversion review. Keep their current form.
  • The recipe comparison is incomplete: complete the listed repairs or request a separate review if there are too many combinations to compare automatically.
  • Publishing is not available for this store yet: this is separate from ingredient repairs. Follow up with Cottage CMS; changing recipe data does not enable publishing.

Confirm and publish

  1. After all requirements are satisfied, read the final confirmation about preserving other questions and existing orders.
  2. Check the confirmation and select Move questions and publish options.
  3. Wait for Your questions have moved. If the result is uncertain, reload this review to check its status before trying again.
  4. Use Set choice limits in Planner if the new choices need stock limits.
  5. Open the storefront product. Check the moved choices, retained questions, valid counts, and displayed total with a representative selection.

Future changes belong in Product Options. Moving choices back into the old form requires a separate review; deleting options or reattaching questions is not a safe undo.
