Enable a method
- Open Payments.
- Open Other ways to pay.
- Configure the exact customer-facing details for Cash App Direct, Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, Cash, or Cash at pickup.
- Save and review the checkout preview.
Understand manual payment timing
Venmo, Cash App Direct, PayPal, Zelle, and regular Cash can create an unpaid order while the customer completes payment outside Cottage CMS. Tracked global inventory is held immediately and restored when a wholly unpaid order is cancelled.
Cash at pickup versus Cash
For orders paid when handed to the customer, choose Cash at pickup instead of regular Cash. Cash at pickup confirms an eligible pickup order for fulfillment while payment remains unpaid, so you can advance fulfillment before collecting cash. You can also offer cash on local delivery if you enable that option. Add clear payment instructions when enabling the method.
Regular Cash orders remain in Proposed fulfillment until payment is recorded. Do not use Confirm Payment just to advance fulfillment when no payment has been received. Enabling Cash at pickup affects eligible future checkout orders only; an existing Cash order cannot be switched to Cash at pickup after checkout.
Common problems
- Payment method priority controls display order only; the explicit default is separate.
- Customers can be offered a method whose instructions are incomplete if the merchant saves a blank or stale handle.
- Repeated Confirm Payment actions must not double-decrement inventory.
