Plan availability: Free. Square-powered checkout is included on Free. Free tenants pay the Cottage Square service fee in addition to Square processing fees. The active production feature matrix is authoritative if an administrator changes an entitlement.
Connect Square
- Open Settings → Payments.
- Choose Connect Square or Re-authorize Square.
- Choose the default Square location.
- Confirm the location has active card processing capability.
- Import products only after the connection is ready.
What customers see
Customers see Credit/Debit checkout when Square is connected and card-ready. Apple Pay availability follows the connection and account settings.
Common problems
- A connected location can still be inactive or report transfers without card processing.
- Customers may see “This account has not been enabled to take payments” while Square completes verification.
- Card-on-file features can require Square reauthorization.
- Free checkout includes a 1.9% + $0.25 Cottage service fee per Square payment in addition to Square’s normal fee.
