Customer accounts and order history

Explain storefront sign-in, verification codes, account panels, and the difference between accounts and email subscriptions.

Plan availability: Free. Customer accounts and order history are included on Free. Chat, loyalty, subscriptions, and SMS inside the account use their own entitlements. The active production feature matrix is authoritative if an administrator changes an entitlement.

How customers sign in

Customers open the storefront account panel and request an email or phone verification code. After entering the code, the account can show orders, favorites, loyalty, subscriptions, notifications, and chat when those features are available.

Account versus email-only subscription

An authenticated account lets Cottage CMS prove tenant-scoped ownership of orders and stored value. An email-only newsletter subscription uses double opt-in but does not create a customer login.

What customers see

  • Orders shows order history and status.
  • Chat opens customer messaging when enabled by the merchant.
  • Favorites, Loyalty, Subscriptions, and Notifications appear when applicable.

Common problems

  • Store credit requires authenticated identity; a typed checkout email is not enough.
  • Subscription activation requires customer sign-in and card authorization.
  • Customer account identity is tenant-scoped and cannot be reused across storefronts.
